This week, I'm inspired by...

I thought that instead of doing a "thankful" post this week I'd do what I'm inspired by.  Do you ever need a little pick-me-up and find yourself watching inspirational youtube videos?  It's funny because it seems like I always revert back to the same ones, the same moments that have inspired me for years.

I was twelve when I watched the following unfold live at the 1996 Olympics.  I was a gymnast growing up and I soaked in every moment of gymnastics in the Olympics.  You may remember that year was particularly spectacular, as the Americans, the "Magnificent 7" they were called, took home the team gold.  But the most talked-about and inspirational moment happened in Kerri Strug's vault...

I remember watching this happen as though it wasn't long ago because it made such an impact on me.  The team gold was up to Kerri.  She injured her foot on her first vault.  She pushed through and pressed on to perform an amazing second vault, almost appearing to land only on her one good leg.  While it may not have been the best idea to perform with an injury, she was determined to do her best.  She was determined to win.  What a victorious moment it was, not only for Kerri but for the many watching.

There are times when I don't think I can make it.  I'm weary, I'm in pain, or I'm not sure if I can achieve something.  But sometimes, even often, we can still do our best in spite of something holding us back.  We just have to try.  The odds may be against us.  An inner voice might be saying, 'You can't do this.'  What if Kerri had given up?  I bet she's glad she didn't.  I'm sure she doesn't regret it for a second.

p.s. Didn't you love her mom's big glasses and hair?  90's, anyone?
