good 'ole George Banks
There are some movies that will always make me cry. They'll always pierce my heart in a real way. One of those movies is Father of the Bride, with Steve Martin. Yesterday I had a couple hours to myself and ended up watching it yet again. I think maybe I'm subconsiously in wedding mode because my five year anniversary is this week!!
There are three main parts that really get me. The first is when George (Steve Martin) and Annie (Kimberly Williams) are outside talking the night before the wedding and it begins snowing. Annie talks about how she packed everything in her room because she didn't want to let anything go. George says he won't ever forget this moment with her. The second is at the end of the wedding ceremony as Annie and her husband begin to walk back down the aisle, and Annie stops for a few seconds to smile at her dad. (Heart. Melting.) And finally, after George has a chaotic time at the reception and doesn't even get to so much as talk to Annie, Annie calls from the airport just to say 'I love you' and 'Goodbye.' Any other daddy's girls in the house? I am a daddy's girl in every sense of the term, and geez, this movie can bring out the waterworks.
I'll never forget my wedding day and how my dad just beamed. I loved those few moments in the back of the church before we walked down the aisle. I am so thankful for the special bond my dad and I have, and that even though I don't get to see him as often as I'd like, I'll always be his girl.
